Plenty of plants sold at big-box stores simply die out here. We plant what actually thrives in the High Desert — trees for shade and wind protection, shrubs and ground cover that handle heat, cold snaps and alkaline soil — placed where they’ll do their job.
Every planting goes in with the irrigation to support it, so the landscape gets greener each year instead of thinner.
A good planting plan works in layers: a tree or two for structure, shrubs for body, ground cover and flowering perennials for color that comes back on its own. Give it a season or two on drip and the yard starts doing the work itself — that’s the goal, a landscape that gets better while you do less.
